These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you") and Burse ("Burse," "we," "us," "our"). By creating an account or using the Burse mobile application or website (burse.me), you confirm that you have read, understand, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Burse.

Burse is a technology platform, not a bank, money services business, or payment processor. All payment processing, including collection of funds and payouts, is performed by Stripe, Inc. under Stripe's own terms. Your use of Stripe's services is also governed by the Stripe Connected Account Agreement.
You register by providing a valid mobile phone number and verifying it via a one-time passcode (OTP). You are responsible for:
You may not share your account credentials, create accounts on behalf of others, or operate multiple accounts to circumvent service limits or bans.
To receive payouts as a tab creator (payer), you must complete identity verification through Stripe's onboarding process ("Stripe Connect"). By doing so, you agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement. Burse is not responsible for Stripe's onboarding decisions, including rejection of applications or account restrictions.
Burse charges a 2% platform fee on each successful payment collected through the app. This fee is deducted from the amount transferred to the tab creator's Stripe account. The fee is disclosed on payment confirmation pages.
You are responsible for ensuring that tab amounts, item allocations, and tip/tax calculations are accurate before sending a tab to participants. Burse uses AI to extract receipt data and applies reasonable calculations, but you should verify all amounts before sending.
If a participant believes their assigned amount is incorrect, they may file a contest through the app. The tab creator reviews contests and may keep or adjust the amount. Burse is not responsible for resolving financial disputes between users. Burse may, at its discretion, assist in dispute resolution but is under no obligation to do so.
Payments made through Burse are processed by Stripe. Refund eligibility is determined by the tab creator and Stripe's policies. Burse does not issue refunds directly. If you paid for a tab and believe a refund is warranted, contact the tab creator directly or reach out to Stripe support.
You are solely responsible for determining and fulfilling any tax obligations arising from payments received through Burse. Burse does not provide tax advice.
You agree to use Burse only for its intended purpose (splitting legitimate shared bills) and in compliance with all applicable laws. You must not use Burse to:
Violation of these restrictions may result in immediate account suspension and, where required, reporting to law enforcement.
By uploading receipt images, entering tab titles and item names, or submitting contest reasons through Burse, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that content solely to provide the service. We do not claim ownership of your content.
You represent that you have the right to share any content you submit, and that your content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.
By creating an account you consent to receive transactional SMS messages from Burse, including OTP codes, payment request links, and payment reminders. You can disable reminder messages in Settings → Notifications at any time. See our Privacy Policy §5 for details.
Burse and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Burse and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of any part of the Burse app or website without our written consent.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BURSE AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the greater of (a) $100 or (b) the total fees paid by you to Burse in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. In such jurisdictions, liability will be limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Burse and its affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of the service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party right; or (d) any fraud you commit through the platform.
You may stop using Burse at any time. To delete your account, email support@burse.me.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent activity, or pose a risk to other users. Upon termination, your right to use the service ends immediately. Obligations related to completed transactions survive termination.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal action arising from these Terms shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
Informal resolution: Before filing any legal claim, you agree to first contact us at legal@burse.me and provide a written description of the dispute. We will attempt to resolve it informally within 30 days.
We may modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we will notify you via in-app notification at least 7 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of Burse after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
If you do not agree to modified Terms, stop using Burse and request account deletion before the effective date.
